*Sakashitamon Gate

You will go to the Okusha Inner Shrine after passing through the Sakashitamon Gate. Only Shogun was able to enter the Sakashitamon Gate in Edo period. The gate is colored by white pigment entirely, and it looks neat and clean. However, pillars and the ceiling are decorated by metal fittings of Shippou-yaki. Sculpture of crane is put on the transom, and peony and arabesque pattern are carved on the wainscot.

There is the Sakashitamon Gate after you passed through under the Nemurineko (Sleeping Cat)

*Sukibei -Transparent fence-

The Sukibei extends from the Karamon Gate to both directions of the right and left. It surrounds Honsha Shrine then. Inside is seen through the fence because it is transparent. The name of the Sukibei (Transparent fence) derived from that.

The Sukibei is 160m long totally, and many sculptures are decorated entirely. Sculptures of wild birds and plants are decorated on the upper transom. On the contrary, sculptures of wave and waterfowl are decorated on the lower wainscot. Also, design of plover is put on the both the right and the left side of the Karamon. Those patterns were made from the same single draft and both front and backside of the draft were used to form two designs. Therefore, the two designs are symmetric.
