*Karamon Gate

Karamon Gate is located after passing through the Youmeimon Gate.
The Karamon is designated as national treasure.
It is small, but is like a craft.

Entrance is 3m wide and is 2m deep. This gate is small, but is the front gate of the most important building, Honsha (Main shrine.) Worshippers were limited to feudal lords, or higher class people in Edo period. Even today, only national guests can enter when big festivals are carried out.

This gate is painted with white powder, and dragons are decorated on the pillars. Sculptures of people are put on the upper side of the gate. These are related to Chinese legend including "The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove." Also, three of seven lucky Gods are sculptured on the west side. Those Gods are known as Daikokuten, Juroujin and Hotei.

Design of crane also is seen for trademark of Japan Airlines.

27 people are carved to express a Chinese legend.

Dragon's powerful face, which is put on the pillar of the Karamon Gate.
