Taisuke
Itagaki protected Nikko from the Boshin War.

3, Hoshino-miya
(Shrine of the star, God of Iwasaku)
Priest Shoto had a dream when he was 7 years old.
Myojo-tenshi (God of the star) appeared in Priest Shoto's dream,
and told him, "Civilize mountainous Nikko after you studied
Buddhism."
Priest Shoto enshrined the Myojo-tenshi
after he opened the Nikko.

Bronze Statue of Bishop Tenkai
Bishop Tenkai revived corrupt
Nikko after he became the successor of Tendai sect of Nikko.

6, Tarousugi
(Cedar of Tarou)
This is the old cedar, which is located in front
of the Jinjaou Shrine. The Tarousugi is 43m high, and the diameter
of 5.75m. It is 530 years old.

Masatsuna Matsudaira planted cedars, and contributed
to Toshogu Shrine.

Four clouds appeared around the Shiunseki when Priest
Shoto prayed. Those four clouds are representatives of Seiryu (East),
Suzaku (South), Byakko (West) and Genbu (North).

An officer
of local government, Toshihaya
Tachibana enshrined Senju-kannon (1000-armed Kannon) in 807. It is
designated as important cultural property. There is a stone platform
to burn a holy fire for invocation. |

Bronze Statue of Munehiro Koura
The statue is located in the Bajo Park. Munehiro
Koura was the master carpenter, who led designing and construction
in the period of Toshogu big reforming.

Tomb of Kyobinsouzu
Kyobinsouzu was the first follower of Priest Shoto.
He became the second successor of mountainous Nikko in 817.

It is a trace of temple that Eishouin built once.
Eishouin was Yorifusa Mito's mother-in-law.

This shrine is believed that it brings an effect on
safe delivery. A piece of Shogi (Japanese chess) is dedicated to the

It is the small shrine, which enshrines Michizane
Sugawara. He is treated as the God of study.

Tegakeishi Stone
This stone is believed that it brings an effect on
improvement in learning and handwriting. You can crack the stone and
offer its piece to the altar.

Monument of God's Horse
It is the stone monument, which is surrounded by trees
on the right side of the approach. Ieyasu Tokugawa rode a house when
he had the crucial battle in Sekigahara, 1600. That house is enshrined
there. |

25, Iimorisugi
(Cedar of Iimori)
Iimori
means to fill rice. The Iimorisugi looked like the filled rice,
but it is missing today. The Iimorisugi was estimated over 500 years
old.

Monument of Prohibition of Urine and Feces
This monument is located on the crossroad to Gyoshadoh
Hall. Impure activities were prohibited in the sacred precinct. |

Bessho-ato (Trace of Branch of Takinoo Shrine)
You will see a flat ground on the right after the
stone stairs. The Bessho was located there. It is told that Gohhanshiki
(Compulsory rice eating) was started there. |

on the deep right of the approach. It is told that Saint Kobo worshipped
Goddess on the stone. |

Kuen-jizou
Kuen is a posthumous Buddhist name of Tadaaki Abe.
He was an Iemitsu's follower. His tomb is located near the Kuen-jizou.
