Taiyuin Mausoleum consists of Haiden oratory,
Ainoma middle room and Honden main hall.
You will get into the
Haiden oratory at first. The Haiden is connected to the room where
width is narrow. That room is called Ainoma. Honden main hall is
located next to the Ainoma. The Honden is narrower, but gorgeous
room, and enshrines the principal image.
There is no partition
between each room, so you can see through the Honden from the Haiden.
A big rite is carried out on April 20th. That day is the Memorial
Day of Iemitsu's death. Successor of Rinnoji Temple goes into the
Honden, and general public can observe the rite from the Haiden.
The area of the Haiden
is 64 mats of Tatami, and 140 dragons are painted on the ceiling.
Although, dragon is
painted in each small circle, some dragons are different. Why don't
you find those differences? Also, there is a wall painting of Chinese
lion at the entrance. That was a collaborative work of Tanyu Kano
and his young brother Eishin.
