Sadness because of Osei
Zenzo Kasai (1877-1928) wrote masterpiece novel titled "Kohan
Nikki (Diary of Lakeside)" in the Itaya Inn of Yumoto
hot spring. The inscription was the author's hand writing,
and that inscription has been described in the novel. "Osei"
is one of the characters in the novel.

Deep snow on the Mt. Nantai
Flows into the lake
After it melted
Utsubo Kubota (1877-1967) was a poet and a scholar of Japanese
literature. Collection of his poems is called "Seikyushu",
and it has been stored in this monument. The poem noted above,
is one of the 68 consecutive works of his collection, which
was red in Nikko.

Yajima |

Birch:
Moon comes in the night
Exposed to it
Sansuushi Yajima (1895-1955) was the first
ranger of Nikko National Park. He also was a curator of Nikko
Museum. He was adored as "God of mountains of Nikko."

Of Mt. Nakimushi
Bokusui Wakayama (1885-1928) was the poet,
who loved travel and drinking. He made 8 poems on October
30th, 1922, when he viewed the Mt. Nantai over the window
from the train. The above poet is one of them.

Futara:
In the autumnal leaves
Vermilion bridge
Buson Yosha (1716-17839 was a poet and a
painter in Edo period. He was as famous as Basho Matsuo. Buson
walked around Kanto region and Tohoku (Northern Japan), and
he made the above poet when he was around 29 years old.

At Sakaki sacred tree:
Purify the whole nation
Opening of the mountain climbing season
Seitoh Hirahata (1905-1997) was the Medical
doctor, who also was the association chairman of poets in
Tochigi prefecture. The above poem was red on August 1st,
when Mt. Nantai climbing season was opened.

| Monument of the novel "Ieyasu Tokugawa" |

All of us:
Branches of life big tree
Sohachi Yamaoka (1907-1978) wrote the long
novel entitled "Ieyasu Tokugawa."
Bronze image of helmet was imitated from Ieyasu's Western
style armor. All 26 volumes of Sohachi's novel were put in
the foundation.

Basho Matsuo (1644-1694) made this haiku
when he was on the way of pilgrimage to the north. Also, there
are 3 other poems.
