This museum opened in October 1997. The basic theme
is "Affection for the Nature." Main exhibition is of Hoan
Kosugi's paintings. He is from Nikko.
Hoan was born in the Shinto priest family.
He became a follower of an Western painter, Bunsai Ioki. After that,
Hoan painted excellent works in other various fields also such as
cartoon, inserted picture and Japanese painting. He won the best
prize twice in the Art Exhibition held by Ministry of Education.
Masterpieces of his work are "Izumi" (Fountain), "Suigou"
(Riverside district), "Yamasachihiko" (Roughly means God
in a myth), "Shinkyo" (Sacred Bridge), "Okuno-hosomichi-gasaku"
(Collection of paintings regarding "Narrow path to the North")
Hoan's pen name "Misei" is seen on those works.
