| About the interpreter |
|
The interpreter tells visitors of National Park about importance
of nature and its meaning. That activity is called interpretation.
That movement began in the United States.
Interpreter is different from a tourist guide.
The interpreter does not explain the fact simply, but stimulates
visitors' intellectual curiosity. Also, the interpreter explains
the big truth behind the fact.
The interpretation has already been becoming professional
in the United States. An American author, Freeman Tilden (1883-1980)
advocated "6 principles of interpretation," and it made
a big change for tourist guides in the world.

| Making a start of NIC |
|
Nikko Interpretation Club (NIC) made a start in 1997. It was influenced
by the activity of interpretation in the United States.
Many tourists visit Nikko, but they only pay attention
to external appearance, and do not focus on history of 1200 years
and plentiful nature. In that situation, NIC plays an important
role to tell visitors real Nikko.
Moreover, NIC handles proposal and explanation
for school trip. Although, it is written in the "6 Principles
of interpretation," interpretation for children is required
different approach from adult.
|
| Application to the NIC |
|
NIC handles explanation of nature, relics, and folk tale, but individual
proposal and application also is available. Application dead line
is 2 weeks before the enforcement.
