The Taiyuiin Mausoleum is not famous enough in comparison with other
shrines and temples of Nikko. However, you should not forget this
building. This is a mausoleum of the third successive shogun Iemitsu
Tokugawa. He cherished Ieyasu's memory through Iemitsu's lifetime.
This mausoleum was built in accordance with Iemitsu's last instruction.
He was willing to follow Ieyasu even after Iemitsu died.
Decoration of this building is relatively moderate
because Iemitsu was afraid of Ieyasu. However, you will find many
artistic aspects in the mausoleum. Just walk for a little bit further.
Taiyuin is located on the deepest area of sanctuary.
