Landscape of the lake was figured by eruption of Mt. Nantai. There is 25km of the circumferences. Altitude of this lake is the highest in the natural lakes in Japan. Fish did not live in the lake until Meiji era, but it was discharged later. The Lake Chuzenji became popular fishing area afterward. Fry and egg of rainbow trout and Sockeye salmon are supplied to aquacultural farm, river and lake in Japan.

There are many historical building around the lake such as Futarasan Chugushi Shrine, Chuzenji Temple, Camping site and the second house of foreign embassy. Also, you can enjoy riding Chuzenji motorboat, and hiking around the lake.
