200,000 stocks of Kisuge grow wild in 26ha of Kisugedaira lily plateau.
Kisuge begins to bloom in the early summer. This is an impressive
scene in the Kisugedaira plateau. Many hikers and tourists visit
there every year.
However, an accident happened in 1994. Wild deer
ate sprout of Kisuge and it did not bloom well. A number of wild
deer was estimated 400.
Various ways were carried out to protect Kisuge
from deer, but they did not work well. Someone says, "Planting
for deer" ironically.
Finally, Nikko City decided to spread netting around
for the protection. It is two meters high and 2115m long totally.
The netting will be longer if it worked.
Kisuge is a symbolic flower of Nikko City, but
people put a lot of effort on management of Kisuge.
