Honsha (Main shrine)

Priest Shoto built a shrine near Shihonryuji Temple to enshrine the God of Futarasan, but that area was in danger of flood of river of Daiya. Therefore, he moved the shrine to another place, where Yomaimon gate of Toshogu Shrine was located near by. This shrine is called Shingu, which means new shrine while the original shrine was called Hongu.

The Honsha enshrines three gods such as Oonamuchino-mikoto, Tagorihimeno-mikoto and Ajisukitakahikoneno-mikoto. The Ohmunachino-mikoto is the God, who made the country. The Tagorihimeno-mikoto is a wife of the Ohmunachino-mikoto. Also, the Ajisuki-takahikoneno-mikoto is a god of cultivation and agriculture. Also, The Ohmunachino-mikoto is a representative of Mt. Nantai, The Tagorihimeno-mikoto is a representative of Mt. Nyohou, and the Ajisukitakahikoneno-mikoto is a representative of Mt. Tarou. Those three gods used to be called "Three representatives of God in Nikko."

Honden main hall and Haiden oratory are located on the south side of Mt. Korei, and Mitomo shrine, Daikokuden hall, Shinyosha shed of sedan chair, Hie shrine are located on the west side. Major buildings such as Honden are designated as important cultural property. Also, Shinmon gate, Kaguraden dance stage, Bakedourou ghost lantern tell you some interesting tale in the history.
