*Hongu Shrine

The Hongu Shrine is located near the junction of river of Daiya and river of Inari. Okuninushino-mikoto and Ajisukitakahikoneno-mikoto are enshrined there. Generally speaking, the Okuninushino-mikoto is the god, who created country while the Ajisuki-takahikoneno-mikoto is a god of cultivation and agriculture.

Preist Shoto built a small shrine to place the God's spirit in Nikko in 790. This is the birthplace of Futarasan Shrine. It had been respected with two other Honsha main shrine and Takinoo Shrine, but it was moved to today's location in order to avoid calamities such as flood.

Construction of Honden main hall of this shrine is relatively simple. Although, eave is brightly colored, most of the building is lacquered. Also, roof is covered by copper tiles. Haiden oratory is not exceptional either.

There are back doors in the Honden main hall, and Mt. Nantai used to be worshipped over the door.
