The Godai-doh hall is established on the cliff
side, back of the main hall of Chuzenji temple.
This is a memorial building for celebration of
1200 years from Priest Shoto's achievement. It was built in 1969.
It is similar to the Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto in some sense.
Godaidoh hall literally means that Godai-myouou
(Five Buddhist Gods) are enshrined in the hall. These are Gouzanze-myouou,
Gundari-myouou, Daiitoku-myouou, Kongohyasha-myouou and Fudou-myouou.
Images of Godai-myouou were made in Edo period, and these were put
in Gomadoh hall of Toshogu Shrine at the first time.
A big dragon (14m X 6 m) is painted on the ceiling
of the Godai-doh hall. The painter is Nanpu Katayama, who is the
winner of Order of Culture, and membership of Art House.
