Chugushi Shrine is located on the foot of Mt. Nantai,
north side of Lake Chuzenji. The Chugushi literally means middle
shrine. It is located in between Oku-miya shrine on the top of the
Mt. Nantai and Main shrine in the central Nikko. Shamon Shoudou
built a shrine to enshrine Futara-gongen avatar after he arrived
the top of Mt. Nantai. This is the beginning of Chugushi Shrine.
Futarasan Shrine and Chugushi Shrine enshrine the same three gods
such as Oonamuchino-mikoto, Tagorihimeno-mikoto and Ajisukitakahikoneno-mikoto.
The Ohmunachino-mikoto is the God, who made the country. The Tagorihimeno-mikoto
is a wife of the Ohmunachino-mikoto. Also, the Ajisuki-takahikoneno-mikoto
is a god of cultivation and agriculture.
Honden main hall, Sukibei transparent fence, Karamon gate, Haiden Oratory, Hama Torii gate are designated as important cultural
property. Also, there is Tohaimon gate on the right side of Honden
main hall. You can climb Mt. Nantai from the gate, and go up to
the Oku-miya Shrine, which is located on the top of Mt. Nantai.
There are two entrances to the sanctuary. One is a Torii gate, which
is located on the east front approach in Chuzenji spa. Another entrance
is called Hama-torii gate in the lakeside of Chuzenji. You will
