*Akechidaira Plateau

The Akechidaira plateau is located on the top of the second Iroha-zaka slope (Up only). Bishop Tenkai named this plateau, but there is a legend that he was Mitsuhide Akechi, who betrayed Nobunaga Oda in the warring states era. Mitsuhide escaped to Mt. Hiei, and became Ieyasu's advisor afterward. According to the legend, Bishop Tenkai wanted to leave his real name, and named it for the best landscape in Nikko.

Today, many visitors enjoy the view from the Akechidaira plateau.
